Full description

Embark on a fascinating half-day tour starting from Arequipa city at 8:00 am. Our first stop is the Añashuayco quarry, where the largest amount of white stone used in Arequipa’s buildings is extracted. This special stone, known as sillar, is made from volcanic rock called ignimbrite. It gives Arequipa its nickname as the “white city” due to its light-colored appearance. The abundance of this stone in Arequipa makes it a symbol of the city.

During this 4-hour tour, you’ll have an exciting time exploring the quarry and the nearby Culebrillas canyon, which is part of the famous Sillar Route. As you wander through the quarry, you’ll be amazed by the beautiful sculptures carved on the walls, showcasing the skilled craftsmanship of the workers. They will even take the time to teach you how to cut the stone, and you’ll have the unique opportunity to try it yourself.
